The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 were introduced in Lok Sabha in August 2023 to repeal and replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Criminal Procedure Code 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act 1872 respectively. The bills had been withdrawn in December 2023 and reintroduced in Parliament to incorporate some of the recommendations made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee in November 2023. On 20th and 21st December 2023, the modified bills were passed by both Houses of Parliament respectively, and received Presidential assent on 25th December 2023.
